House at Bunyola

Finding himself in a place where popular expertise alone knows how to build sends the architect back to school, but this time to a good one. The fact that only a beast of burden or a man on foot might reach the site has never been an obstacle; the construction was awaiting what was simple, both in materials, those found in the immediate vicinity, and topography. A mechanical wheelbarrow driven by a man has brought up the blocks of thermoceramic and a helicopter has transported the concrete.

Admiring and belonging to the location occurs at the same time. It’s not just a landscape for contemplation, silenced like a painting by the frame of the windows –instead, intervening in it means building for the whole community of house, accustomed to sharing walls, patios, stairs and terraces.

The house lets itself tumble down the terraces so as to adapt to the circumstances of the topography and to the pre-existing features. The plot’s ancient path, which leads to the mountains, becomes the landing, entrance and porch of the house.
